Madonna Louise Veronica Ciccone was born on August 16, 1958 at 7:05 AM, in Bay City, Michigan. Her parents' names are Madonna Fortin and Silivio 'Tony' Ciccone. Her father is Italian and her mother is French-Canadian. She has 7 siblings: Melanie, Paula, Jennifer, Martin, Christopher, Anthony and Mario. Her mother died of cancer on December 1, 1963 when Madonna was only 5 years old. She grew up with her father, stepmother and 7 siblings. She attended St.Andrews Patrick Catholic School and she attended West Junior High for the 8th grade. She graduated from Rochester Adams High School in 1976. She won a scholarship because of her excellent grades and studied modern dance and drama for 3 semesters at the University of Michigan and she has an IQ of 140. She left Michigan and moved to New York in 1977, with only $35. She began her entertainment career by modeling and performing with Alvin Ailey dance troupe with hopes of becoming a professional dancer. Then for a short time she became a member of the Breakfast Club, she played the drums and then became the lead singer. After she left the Breakfast Club, she formed a short-lived band named Emmy. Her 1st film 'A Certain Sacrifice' was shot in 2 parts, the first in 1979 and the other in 1981. She also appeared in a filmed stage play in 1980 called 'In Artificial Light' in which she wrote her own part. She started recording some dance tracks that led her to being signed with Sire Records 2 years later.
In 1982 she had a record deal with Sire Records and finally her music hit the club scene with the track called "Everybody." Her hits continued and she released her debut album MADONNA, which hit #8 on US album charts and has been certified 5x Platinum in the US and it hit #6 in the UK charts and has been certified 3x Platinum, overall it has sold 10 million copies worldwide. The singles from this album are: Everybody; Burning Up; Lucky Star; Holiday #16 in the US and #6 {Silver} in the UK; Borderline #10 {Gold} in the US and #56 in the UK. MADONNA the album was named one of Rolling Stone's 100 Best Albums of the 80s.
In 1984 she started fashion trends with her unique look using rosaries and crosses as jewelry and black rubber typewriter bands as bracelets. Legions of adolescent girls mimicked her look and a Madonna clothing store was opened in New York.
