Craig David has purchased an expensive new car in a reported move to strengthen his street credibility - even though he doesn't have a driving licence.

The 23-year-old Seven Days singer is importing a custom built Hummer to the UK at a cost of $216,000 after spotting some of today's biggest urban stars riding around in similar models.

The vehicle boasts heated leather seats, a built-in DVD player and PlayStation 2 games console, a $27,000 stereo system and state-of-the-art satellite navigation technology.

A friend says, "He saw hip-hop star Pharrell Williams driving one in Los Angeles and thought it was so cool. He wants a bit of that credibility.

"Craig's just moved into his 1.3 million Hampstead bachelor pad. His neighbours are Emma Bunton and Justin Hawkins and there are a lot of flash cars around."

But David will have to confine his car to a nearby parking space as he's yet to acquire a license to drive.
