Bono writes New York Times column
Posted by: Jasper is offline Jasper - January 12th, 2009 10:30 AM

U2 frontman Bono will write an opinion column for The New York Times, the paper has announced.

The 48-year-old singer's first column, for which he will also record a podcast, will appear on Sunday.

He said it would be "an honour" but warned that he had "never been great with the full stops or commas".

Times page editor Andrew Rosenthal said Bono was "an extraordinary man who thinks deeply about his art and the major issues confronting the world."

The paper said Bono's column would cover a diverse range of topics.

The singer is well known for campaigning against debt for the world's poorest countries and for the improvement of trade relations between Africa and the rest of the world.

Last year, he received an honorary degree at Japan's Keio University for his work in the fight against poverty and Aids in Africa.
